Working together, whether that's for 3 or 30 sessions, will begin with developing an initial understanding of what's going on for you, followed by collaborative formulation of your strengths and difficulties. Any intervention will be based on best practice guidelines as far is as helpful, and adapted to your specific goals for input and ongoing experience within therapy. People often choose to work with a psychologist to help them to understand themselves or something that has happened to them, to change behaviours they feel are limiting or no longer serving them, and to help make decisions or guide their life course. Your reason may fit these descriptions or may be completely different, there is no right or wrong reason to access input.
